Chicago Food Policy Advisory Council
The fourth annual Chicago Food Policy Advisory Council brought together a wide group of stakeholders from public private organizations to community based activists to discuss strategies to further the development of policies that support a culturally appropriate, nutritionally sound, affordable and sustainable local food system. The summit was held downtown at the Chicago Cultural Center. The day before this recording, a youth food policy pre summit training was held on Tuesday, April 7, 2009.
The youth groups attending were Cob Connection, God's Gang, Green Youth Farm, Growing Power, Imagine Englewood, Kennedy King College, Mercy House, South West Youth Collaborative, and TERC. Technical training was provided by Urban Underground, Milwaukee, WI and Growing Power, Chicago Office.
The summit opened with several short videos followed by an enthusiastic drumming welcome from participants in the youth food policy training held the day before. The drummers entered from the back of the theater and made their way to the stage. This was followed by a formal summary of the training by participant Jessica Baker. Speeches from city clerk Miguel del Valle and first ward Alderman Manny Flores conclude this recording.
